Here at Handlaget we believe strongly in our motto of re-use - re-pair- refresh. This leads us to work hard to preserve quality made products from the past. Preserving to us may look like bringing a piece back to it's original look. It may also include re-imagining it with a new color so that a beautiful, well made older piece of furniture fits your vision for your current home. It may mean changing a piece into something completely different or reclaiming some old lumber, siding or shelves into a beautiful new table. Projects like this enable you to keep the history of something you love and give it a place of value in your family.
We also strongly believe in minimizing our chemical footprint on the planet. This is one of the reasons we love to save older pieces. You are continuing the lifespan of a solid wood piece while not cutting down new trees or making something out of fake wood. Whenever possible we use non-toxic, earth friendly low to no voc products.
Handlaget can be your go-to place to purchase a quality piece, order a custom wooden item, have your existing furniture repaired or have a solid piece you love re-furbished or painted in our non-toxic chalk style paints.
We also love to share the knowledge. Through our classes and parties you can learn some of our skill sets. These events range from making your own wooden signs with our custom designed and cut stencils to learning how to chalk paint a piece from prep to finish. No matter the level of class you take you will learn how to work with our non-toxic chalk style paints and our amazing hemp oil based furniture salve.

Handlaget is the product of mother and son Christine and Paul Boardman. It gives them a space to showcase their interest in preservation. Paul Boardman has over 8 years working in the wood shop for Ocean City, NJ Beach Patrol where he builds lifeguard stands, repairs boats and does all of the woodwork needed by an active Beach Patrol. He has taken this interest up a notch by further honing his skills and creating beautiful custom pieces.
Christine has been refurbishing furniture long before chalk style paint became a trend. She is currently trained in using Wise Owl Chalk Synthesis Paint and all of their products along with many special custom furniture painting finishes. In addition she designs and cuts her own stencils to add interest to furniture and to make custom signs.
